On Thursday 27th April version 7.2.2 of Viostream was deployed to production. This release contains the following.
Analytics only access
We have created a new user type for accounts. You can now create an “Analyst” user which will only have access to the reporting tab of your account.
This allows you to grant access to stakeholders in your business, such that they can track the success of their media, without having to grant them full access to the Viostream console.
Combined distribution and embed tabs
These two tabs have a very similar function, so it made sense to combine them.
We also gave these interfaces a quick refresh as we implemented the URL video controls.
URL video controls
This new feature allows you to control which part of a video your users see first by appending information on its URL.
You can tell a video to seek to a specified time when it loads by adding a time code onto the URL.
?v_t=0h2m10s) onto a distribution or embed URL will tell that player to start at the specified time, in the case of the example 2m and 10s into the video.
You can easily add these time codes on to distribution / embed links using the Start at checkbox on the Distribution tab of a media item.
You can tell a video to seek to a specific chapter when it loads by adding a chapter handle onto the URL.
?v_c=introduction onto a distribution or embed URL will tell that player to start at the specified chapter when it loads; in the case of the example a chapter called Introduction
You can easily add these handles onto distribution links using the Copy link button on the Chapters tab of a media item. Otherwise you can manually add a handle by copying it from the Chapter Handle column and adding it to either an embed or distribution URL.
URL video controls and embeds
Both time code and chapter controls can be used on the parent page of a video embed.
For example, if you embed your video onto your own website e.g.
coffeestream.com you can then add URL controls onto that URL to dictate when the player starts. e.g.
