An audio description is a voice over describing what's going on in the visuals of the video. This includes written text (lower thirds presenting an individual's name and their title or company) and descriptions of what's going on in the video (people, weather, movement, etc). This is important for viewers who are visually impaired.
Viostream supports multi-audio tracks (additional MP3 audio container) and the integrated player controls for the viewer to turn on or off as required.
*You do not need audio descriptions for talking heads only, or for text on slides as long as the slide text is woven into what you say. You may need audio description for charts and diagrams.
When a video has an additional audio track, or audio description, then the headphone icon will appear. This enables the viewer to select the audio track they'd like to listen to.
*Note the headphone icon will only appear on videos with multiple audio tracks. The default, or original audio track, will automatically play.
FAQ: How do I upload a video with audio description or multiple audio tracks?
Since the audio description is only an additional audio track, it isn't actually a separate video file, you upload the media asset using the upload button.
FAQ: How do I rename the audio tracks?
The system automatically names the audio tracks: English 1 English 2. So the administrator will need to rename the audio tracks as you'd like. We recommend using default and description.
To rename the audio tracks, go to the accessibility tab and update the fields. See below.
