What is video to text?
The narrative content in a video can be converted to text for the hearing impaired.
What does it do?
We have integrated with a 3rd Party provider so customers can "order" Captions and Transcripts for any video with a single click.
This service gives you the ability to create caption and transcript files for any media asset uploaded into Viostream. For admin users to place an order, the account must have enough service minutes to cover the order, for example, a 2:31 min video requires 3 mins of service credits to place an order. Once ordered, turnaround time is approximately two business days, after which time the new caption and transcript files are automatically attached to the media asset.
How does it work?
Placing an order
- Select MEDIA from the top menu
- select ACCESSIBILITY to display caption, transcript and video to text details
- click the Order a Caption and Transcript button.
If you don't have enough minutes, a message is displayed, showing the number of minutes remaining in your account.
We calculate how many minutes the video is (rounded up to minutes), and deduct this from your remaining transcription minutes. There is an Add minutes button that functions the same way as when a client who doesn't have enough minutes.
What if the customer doesn't have enough Service Minutes to place an order?
If you don't have sufficient minutes, for example, there are 3 minutes on your account and the video length is 5 minutes, you can order more minutes by clicking the Add Minutes button on the right of the page.
When the Add Minutes button has been clicked, a message is sent to your Viostream Client Services Associate. Your CSA will contact you to arrange for additional minutes to be added to your account.
A CSA can edit the total number of minutes for a client through a tab in the System Admin > Account > area called Video to Text Service Minutes. This tab will have a single input field for the number of minutes currently available to the client.
Minutes can be added or deducted from the account by including a minus symbol before the # of minutes. eg. -50
Captions received are in SRT format, then Viostream converts them into VTT and discards the SRT. Transcripts are in Word format.
