What is URL signing?
URL signing gives clients the ability to protect content from unauthorised access.
URLs to video assets are generated on demand and signed with an encryption key by the Viostream player. Once generated, the encryption key is valid only for a period of two (2) hours. During that period those URLs can still be shared and played elsewhere. However, URLs cannot be 'guessed' or recreated as they must be signed with an encryption (secret) key. Importantly, this process is entirely transparent to the user.
How do I set up URL signing?
To set up URL signing, please contact your Viostream Client Services Associate (CSA) with a request to set up URL signing. Your CSA will be in touch to let you know once this has been completed.
Things to know
When URL signing has been set up it will apply to any newly uploaded assets. Any existing content will not have URL signing applied. This will not impact set up of new accounts as these will not contain existing content.
Is URL signing support consistent with our browser/device support?
URL signing is independent from browser/device support. So there are no browser/device limitations.
Are there any issues with performance if multiple clients start using this feature?
The platform team have done a number of performance optimisations to improve scalability and performance.
