Connect Your Encoder
Before you can go live, you need to connect your streaming software to your Viostream encoder. Viostream supports any encoder that can output RTMP.
What you need
- Streaming software — OBS Studio, Wirecast, or any RTMP-capable encoder
- Your RTMP ingest URL and stream key — retrieved from Encoder Settings
Step 1 — Get your connection details
- Navigate to Settings → Encoders.
- Click View Details on your encoder.
- Copy the RTMP Input A URL and your Stream Key.
Step 2 — Configure OBS Studio
- Open OBS Studio.
- Go to Settings → Stream.
- Set Service to Custom…
- Paste your RTMP Input A URL into the Server field.
- Paste your Stream Key into the Stream Key field.
- Click OK to save.
tip
In OBS, leave the Use authentication checkbox unticked — authentication is handled by the stream key, not a separate username and password.
Wirecast and other encoders
The steps vary by software, but the fields are the same in every RTMP encoder:
| Viostream field | Your encoder field |
|---|---|
| RTMP Input A | Server / URL / Destination |
| Stream Key | Stream Key / Stream Name / Password |
Consult your encoder's documentation for the exact field names.
Step 3 — Test your connection
- Start streaming in your encoder software (in OBS: click Start Streaming).
- In Viostream, navigate to Live → open your live stream.
- Check the encoder status — it should change from Offline to Connected within a few seconds.
Once your encoder shows Connected, you are ready to schedule a session and go live.
SRT
SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) ingest is available on request. Contact Customer Success via the Live Chat to enable SRT on your encoder. Once enabled, you will receive an SRT ingest URL to use in place of the RTMP URL.
