Running your event with the Director
Open the Event Director from your event page — the button appears once your event is published. The Director has three tabs: Control, Slides, and Stats.
Before you go live, run through the Event readiness checklist — it covers testing your stream and syncing slides in more detail.
Control
The Control tab shows a stepper for the three live event states — Pre-Event, During (Live), and Post-Event — alongside a monitor you can switch between your encoder feed and the viewer experience.
Going live
Click Go Live to move from Pre-Event to During (Live). Viostream checks a few things first and shows warnings if:
- your encoder isn't running yet
- you're going live significantly earlier or later than the scheduled start time
Viewers currently seeing your Pre-Event content switch to the live broadcast as soon as you confirm.
Concluding your event
Click Conclude Event to move from During (Live) to Post-Event. If your event has only been live a few minutes, Viostream asks you to confirm before switching — this avoids accidentally ending a broadcast early.
Resetting an event
Once concluded, you can click Reset event to move back to Pre-Event.
Resetting an event cannot be undone. Any slide timings that have been cued will be deleted.
Slides
The Slides tab appears once you've uploaded a slide deck (see Adding event content).
- Before you go live, click a slide's thumbnail to set it as the Opening Slide — the first thing viewers see when you go live
- Once you're live, use the arrows to cue the next slide, or click any slide thumbnail to jump straight to it, then click Push Slide to make it visible to your audience
If your encoder is running, a Slide Delay control lets you fine-tune how far ahead or behind your slides appear compared to the live stream, to account for encoder latency — see Syncing your slides for how to measure and set it.
