Viostream offers a range of asset security measures that enable organizations of any size to gate their content, so that you can distribute your Media without worrying about unauthorized access.

Internal and controlled access Media
The use of internal video for training and other purposes is growing at a rate of knots. Viostream offers a range of different methods for you to ensure that your internal material can only be viewed by authorized staff. These methods can also be used to provide controlled access to Media - for example if you are producing educational videos that you want your customers to access, but not unauthenticated viewers on the internet.
Creating a private Viostream Site
A private Viostream Site is an easy, low touch way to secure your video without needing to manage your own web publishing software. Viostream Sites comes with a flexible range of customizable templates, so you can create a video portal that looks great whilst protecting your video. Securing your video behind a Viostream Site is a simple 5 step process:
- Create the Site Follow our simple guide to create your Site, or contact our experienced Customer Success team who will help you get your Site up and running in minutes. Note down the URL for your Site for use in step 3.
- Add your Media to the Site Create one or more Channels containing Media that will be displayed on the Site, and then add the Channels to the Site.
3. Create a Restriction Profile
Follow our simple guide
to create a Domain Whitelist. Add the domain from step 1 to the whitelist. Note:
only the domain part of the URL is required, e.g. if the URL is
https://acme-corp.publish.viostream.com/acme-training
then add
acme-corp.publish.viostream.com
to the Domain Whitelist.
If you would like all future uploaded Media to be secured behind your Site, select Set as the default profile when you create your Restriction Profile.
4. Apply the Restriction Profile to your Media
For every Media Asset you want to secure behind a Site, follow our quick guide to apply the Restriction Profile you just created. If you set your Restriction Profile as default, future uploads will also be secured behind the Site.
5. Set up Site Registration
Finally, set up Site Registration so that only authorized viewers can access the Site. You can choose from Viostream-managed authentication, SAML integration for your corporate directory, or enable sign on via a social media platform.
Securing Media embedded on your intranet or LMS
A common method for sharing Media with staff is to embed it on a corporate intranet website such as Sharepoint or Confluence, or your learning management system (LMS) such as Bridge or Moodle. Securing video on your intranet or LMS is a simple 2 step process:
1. Create a Restriction Profile
Follow our simple guide to create a Domain Whitelist. Add your intranet or LMS’s domain to the whitelist.
If you would like all future uploaded Media to be secured behind your Site, select Set as the default profile when you create your Restriction Profile.
2. Apply the Restriction Profile to your Media
For every Media Asset you want to secure behind a your intranet or LMS, follow our quick guide to apply the Restriction Profile you just created. If you set your Restriction Profile as default, future uploads will also be secured behind your intranet or LMS.
Securing Media behind a corporate gateway
For organizations that operate a corporate network, an IP Restriction Profile can be used to ensure that videos can only be accessed from behind your corporate gateway(s). Staff will either need to be physically connected to your corporate network, or remotely connected via a VPN in order to access Media Assets that are protected by an IP Restriction profile. Setting this up is a simple 2 step process:
1. Create a Restriction Profile
Follow our simple guide to create a IP Range Whitelist. Add your corporate gateway’s IP address(es) or range(s) to the whitelist.
If you would like all future uploaded Media to be secured behind your corporate gateway, select Set as the default profile when you create your Restriction Profile.
2. Apply the Restriction Profile to your Media
For every Media Asset you want to secure behind a your corporate gateway, follow our quick guide to apply the Restriction Profile you just created. If you set your Restriction Profile as default, future uploads will also be secured behind your corporate gateway.
Public Media
There are many cases where you want your content to be publicly accessible - for example, marketing videos for your website. It is important to ensure that you are in control of where your content is being embedded, so that you can control the messaging, branding and tracking of your video.
Locking your Media to your websites
If you have created some great video content for your website, you want to make sure that it can’t be played back elsewhere. Viostream enables you to lock your Media down to websites under your control, in 2 simple steps:
1. Create a Restriction Profile
Follow our simple guide to create a Domain Whitelist. Add your websites to the whitelist.
If you would like all future uploaded Media to be locked to your websites, select Set as the default profile when you create your Restriction Profile.
2. Apply the Restriction Profile to your Media
For every Media Asset you want to be locked to your websites, follow our quick guide to apply the Restriction Profile you just created. If you set your Restriction Profile as default, future uploads will also be locked to your website.
Controlling geographical access to Media
For various legal reasons, it may be important to ensure that viewers from different geographical regions cannot access your Media. For example, you might have trademark or copyright rights in certain jurisdictions but not in others. Viostream enables you to control the countries from which viewers can access your video, in 2 simple steps:
1. Create a Restriction Profile
Follow our simple guide to create a Country Whitelist. Add the countries that are allowed access your Media to the whitelist.
If you would like all future uploaded Media to be geographically restricted, select Set as the default profile when you create your Restriction Profile.
2. Apply the Restriction Profile to your Media
For every Media Asset you want to be geographically restricted, follow our quick guide to apply the Restriction Profile you just created. If you set your Restriction Profile as default, future uploads will also be geographically restricted.
